Editing Rates

As an editor, my priority is to help your work shine.  I approach every editing job with enthusiasm and respect; I think those two things are key to working with any writer’s creation.  As an editor I provide two levels of service: Proofreading and Copyediting.

Proofreading (.003 cent per word [word count x .003])

• Punctuation, spelling, and grammar
• Typographical Errors
• Formatting consistency
• Correct verbage
• Subject-verb agreement
• Sentence fragments and run-on sentences
• Shifting verb tense

Copyediting (.0055 cent per word [word count x .0055])

• includes proofreading, above
  
• plot, character, and time-line consistency
• voice
• coherency and flow
  
• suggestions on how to rework troubled areas and dialogue
  

I would prefer to receive documents electronically, in either .doc/.docx or .rtf (rich-text format), though I can work from hard-copy if you require.  In the case of hard-copy, the client is responsible for the cost of document shipping.

Research/Data Entry Rates

I generally charge out research jobs at an hourly rate, though flat rates can be negotiated.  The hourly rate is dependant on a few things: time commitment, deadline, can I do the work solely from home, how interesting is it (yes, interest plays a part; if I am researching a fantastic subject, I’m willing to lower my rate.  Please note, the definition of interesting lies with me, not the client.)

Data entry is charged out at $15/hour, though again, a flat rate can be negotiated.  There is not as much wiggle-room, however, on the price of data entry work; I’ve yet to find any data entry interesting enough to make me work cheaper.

For All Work

Work commences when we have agreed on the scope and terms; I will provide a work-order based on our agreement.  Once a signed copy of the work-order is scanned back to me I will begin work.  When I have finished I will send back the completed work along with an invoice.  Unless otherwise agreed upon, payment is due upon completion.  I will accept certified cheques or money orders through the mail, but I prefer PayPal; it is secure and convenient to use.  If those options are not available to you, please let me know prior to work commencing, and we can try to find another payment option.

Registered charities and not-for-profits receive a 20% discount on all work done.
